Gary Mullen & The Works – 2016

One night of Queen at the GM Centre, Oshawa ON – Wednesday, March 30, 2016.

Being a huge fan of Queen, I was honored and grateful to be reviewing one of the only 2 Canada performances of “One Night of Queen” at the GM Centre in Oshawa. This was the first show in Canada in over 6 years.

Since there was no opening act the band took the stage right on time starting off the show with the song “One Vision”.  Gary Mullen the lead singer of the band was amazing with his signature moves and gestures it almost felt like Freddie Mercury was on stage. Gary got the audience involved including giving a young boy a high five.

At times if you closed your eyes you could envision that it was the original band on stage that’s how good they were sounding.   Gary and the band which included Billy Moffat (Bass Guitar), Jon Halliwell (Drums), Malcolm Gentles (Keyboards), & David Brockett (Electric Guitar) were remarkable. Other songs of the evening included “Under Pressure”, “I want to be free”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Fat Bottomed Girl”, and many other popular tunes. They also did a little medley of “La Bamba” and the infamous “Twist and Shout”. After an intermission the band was back on stage with more intensity and energy, they were having fun. Gary ensured the fans were thoroughly entertained by interacting with the crowd frequently.

A few more of my favorite songs in the second set was “I want it all”, “Love of my Life” and “Crazy little thing called love”. The encore presentation comprising of “Radio Gaga”, “We Will Rock You” and “We are the Champions” was incredible with everyone on their feet clapping, dancing, and roaring the audience was pumped.

What a phenomenal night with great sound superb lighting and an excellent performance by the band. One Night of Queen is impressive.

Rock & Roll!
